Camp Out

Terms of use

Last updated October 11, 2026

These Terms of Use ("Terms") are an agreement between you and Go Camping LLC, a Colorado limited liability company ("we," "us," "our"), for your use of the Camp Out app and the campoutatlas.com website (together, "Camp Out"). By using Camp Out, you agree to these Terms and to our Privacy Policy. If you don't agree, please don't use Camp Out. When you create an account, we'll ask you to confirm that you agree to these Terms. Please read sections 1, 11, 12 and 15 carefully: they explain that you use Camp Out at your own risk, limit our liability, and require claims to be brought individually rather than as part of a class action.

1. ⚠️ Safety and accuracy — please read

Camp Out is a planning tool, not a guarantee. Campground information comes from government agencies, open-data projects, and other campers, and it can be wrong, incomplete, or out of date. Campgrounds close, fees change, roads wash out, fire restrictions come and go, and a spot shown on the map may not be open, legal, safe, or reachable in your vehicle.

You are responsible for your own trip. Before you travel, verify conditions, closures, fees, regulations, permits, and access with the managing agency or operator. Check vehicle size limits and road conditions for your rig. Obey all posted rules, fire restrictions, and land-use laws. Camping, driving, and outdoor recreation carry real risks, including remote locations without cell service or emergency help. You use Camp Out and go to any location at your own risk.

Vehicle fit and navigation. The RV fit check compares the details you enter with size information from our sources. It's an estimate, not a confirmation that your rig can reach, enter, turn around in, or park at a campground. Navigation is provided by Apple Maps or Google Maps, which may route you onto roads that are unpaved, seasonal, steep, narrow, or unsuitable for your vehicle. Road signs, closures, and your own judgment always come before any app.

No signal, no help. Many campgrounds are in places without cell service, where Camp Out, maps, and navigation may stop working and emergency help may be far away. Download what you need before you go, carry paper maps and supplies, tell someone your plans, and in an emergency call 911 where service is available. Camp Out is not an emergency or safety service.

Information from other campers. Notes, verifications, and corrections come from other users. Even when we review a correction before publishing it, we can't confirm it on the ground, and it may be wrong or out of date.

Camp Out doesn't operate, inspect, or endorse any campground, and a listing is not permission to camp on any piece of land. Some locations may be on, or reached through, private, tribal, or restricted land; it's up to you to get any permission you need.

2. Who can use Camp Out

Anyone can browse the map without an account. You must be at least 18 years old to create an account. By creating one, you confirm that you are. You also confirm that you can form a binding contract and that you aren't barred from using Camp Out under U.S. law. If we learn that someone under 18 has created an account, we'll delete it. Camp Out is intended for use in the United States.

3. Your account

Keep your sign-in details secure; you're responsible for activity on your account. Give accurate information, and don't create an account for someone else or impersonate anyone. Tell us right away at support@campoutatlas.com if you think someone else has used your account.

You can delete your account at any time in the app. Deleting it removes your account, your profile, your saved places, and your history with us. Notes and campground information you contributed stay in Camp Out, permanently detached from you — see section 4 and the Privacy Policy.

4. Your content and the rights you give us

"Your content" means everything you submit: verifications, notes, reports, corrections to campground details, new campgrounds you add, and photos if we add photo uploads later.

5. Community guidelines

Notes exist to help other campers. Every note must follow these rules:

Do:

Don't post:

Notes are limited to 2,000 characters, and these posting limits apply to keep information fresh and prevent spam: one note per campground every 6 months, two notes per day across all campgrounds, and a note can be edited for 24 hours after posting — after that you can delete it but not change it. Deleting a note does not always free up the campground again: the first two deletions in any 30 days release the slot, but after that the 6-month limit holds for that campground. We may adjust these limits over time to keep Camp Out useful and fair.

6. Reporting, blocking, and moderation

We're not obligated to monitor all content, and we're not responsible for content posted by users. But we take reports seriously. Content posted by users reflects their views, not ours, and reviewing or removing some content doesn't make us responsible for content we leave up.

7. Things you may not do

Don't:

Nothing in these Terms limits any rights you have under the Open Database License or any other open license for data we make available under it, or your right to use facts and public-domain government information.

8. Data sources and third-party services

Campground information is compiled from public and open sources, including OpenStreetMap (© OpenStreetMap contributors, available under the Open Database License), Recreation.gov / RIDB, the National Park Service, the USDA Forest Service, the Bureau of Land Management, the U.S. Geological Survey, and state park and natural-resource agencies. These sources don't endorse Camp Out. Full attribution is available in the app and on our website. Some campground records in Camp Out are derived from OpenStreetMap, which is published under the Open Database License 1.0. We don't redistribute OpenStreetMap's data ourselves. If you want that data, you can get it from OpenStreetMap directly and under the same licence, at openstreetmap.org/export for a small area or planet.openstreetmap.org for the full dataset. Nothing here restricts any right you have under the ODbL or under any other open licence covering data we use.

The map is provided by Google Maps, and your use of it is also subject to Google's terms (maps.google.com/help/terms_maps). Navigation opens Apple Maps or Google Maps, which have their own terms. We're not responsible for third-party services. Google's Privacy Policy (policies.google.com/privacy) also applies to the map.

Camp Out is free at launch. If we introduce paid features, their price and terms will be shown before you buy. Purchases made through the App Store or Google Play are also governed by those stores' terms, including their refund policies.

10. Our rights

Camp Out, including its design, software, and the way data is compiled and presented, is owned by Go Camping LLC and protected by law. That includes our selection, arrangement, cleaning, matching, and enrichment of campground information from many sources, except for any part of the Camp Out database that we make available under the Open Database License or another open license, which you may use under that license. We don't claim ownership of underlying facts or of public-domain government information. We give you a personal, limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable license to download and use the Camp Out app on devices you own or control, and to use our website, for your own non-commercial use in line with these Terms. Apart from that license and any open-data license described in section 8, we don't grant you any rights to Camp Out. We may change, suspend, or discontinue any part of Camp Out at any time.

11. Disclaimer of warranties

CAMP OUT IS PROVIDED "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE," WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, express or implied, including warranties of accuracy, completeness, availability, merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement. We don't warrant that any information, including campground locations, status, fees, amenities, access, or regulations, is accurate or current, or that Camp Out will be uninterrupted or error-free. Information about vehicle fit, road access, and conditions is especially likely to be incomplete. Nothing in Camp Out is professional, legal, or safety advice. Some places don't allow the exclusion of certain warranties, so some of these exclusions may not apply to you.

12. Limitation of liability

TO THE FULLEST EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, GO CAMPING LLC AND ITS OWNERS, EMPLOYEES, AND AGENTS WILL NOT BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, OR FOR ANY PERSONAL INJURY, PROPERTY DAMAGE, VEHICLE DAMAGE, FINES, OR LOSS arising from your use of Camp Out, your reliance on any information in it, or your travel to or use of any location. Our total liability for any claim relating to Camp Out is limited to the greater of the amount you paid us in the 12 months before the claim, or US $50. These limits apply to every kind of claim, whether in contract, tort (including negligence), or otherwise, even if we were told the damage was possible. They don't limit liability that the law doesn't allow to be limited, such as liability for gross negligence or willful misconduct. Some places don't allow certain limitations, so some of these may not apply to you.

13. Indemnity

You agree to indemnify, defend, and hold harmless Go Camping LLC and its owners, employees, and agents from claims, losses, and expenses (including reasonable attorneys' fees) arising from your content, your misuse of Camp Out, or your violation of these Terms or the law. We may take over the defense of any such claim at our own expense, and you'll cooperate with us.

14. Ending your use

You can stop using Camp Out and delete your account at any time. We may suspend or end your access if you break these Terms or to protect Camp Out or its users. Sections that by their nature should survive (such as 1, 4, 7, and 10–18) continue after your access ends — including the license in section 4, which continues for content you already submitted.

15. Governing law and disputes

These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of Colorado, without regard to conflict-of-law rules. Any dispute will be resolved in the state or federal courts located in Colorado, and you and we consent to their jurisdiction. Before filing any claim, you and we each agree to try to resolve it informally first: send a written description of the dispute to support@campoutatlas.com (or, for us, to the email on your account), and allow 60 days to resolve it. Either of us may instead bring an individual claim in any small-claims court that has jurisdiction.

Class-action waiver. To the fullest extent permitted by law, you and we agree that any claim will be brought only on an individual basis, and not as a plaintiff or class member in any class, collective, consolidated, or representative action. If this paragraph can't be enforced for a particular claim, that claim alone will proceed in court as described above, and the rest of these Terms will still apply.

Time limit. To the extent permitted by law, any claim relating to Camp Out must be filed within one year after it arises.

16. App Store terms

If you downloaded Camp Out from Apple's App Store:

Google Play users are also subject to Google Play's terms of service.

17. Changes to these Terms

We may update these Terms. If we do, we'll change the "Last updated" date, and the current version is always available at campoutatlas.com/terms. For significant changes we'll make the change clear rather than quiet, and we'll ask you to accept the new Terms in the app where that is appropriate. Continuing to use Camp Out after changes take effect means you accept them. Changes won't apply retroactively, and changes to section 15 won't apply to a dispute that either of us already knew about before the change.

18. General terms

Entire agreement. These Terms, together with the Privacy Policy and any terms shown to you for paid features, are the whole agreement between you and us about Camp Out.

If part is invalid. If any part of these Terms can't be enforced, the rest still applies, and that part will be enforced as far as the law allows.

No waiver. If we don't enforce part of these Terms right away, we haven't given up the right to enforce it later.

Transfer. You can't transfer your rights under these Terms. We may transfer ours, for example as part of a sale or reorganization of our business.

Things outside our control. We're not responsible for delays or failures caused by events beyond our reasonable control, such as outages at our service providers, natural disasters, or government action.

Electronic notices. You agree that we can give you notices by email or in the app, and that these count as notices in writing.

Relationship. Nothing in these Terms creates a partnership, employment, or agency relationship between you and us.
